What is self storage?
Self Storage is a service that offers both residential and businesses users access to individual secure storage space. The storage rooms Shurgard offers are secure, clean and dry and are accessible - free of charge - using a personal access code and key 7 days a week at most stores. Shurgard strives to offer a solution to each situation.

Who is Shurgard?
Shurgard is part of Public Storage, an international company noted at the New York Stock Exchange. Shurgard is member of The Netherlands Self Storage Association in which a number of self storage operators are member. Membership of this association requires meeting certain quality standards.

What kind of security is there?
All our stores are monitored by security cameras placed in strategic locations. You are the only one with access to your room, which is locked with a specifically designed lock owned by you. The lock is unique and only you hold the keys. You use a personal electronic access code to access the premises. We have worldwide experience in self storage for decades.

What is the minimum rental period? Is there a maximum?
The minimum rental period is one week. You can store for as long as you want, there is no maximum rental period. Contracts are automatically renewed on a monthly basis.

How quickly can I move in?
You can move in on the same day as you make your enquiry (during office opening hours) providing that you have the relevant documentation needed to complete and sign your contract, being your ID or passport. In case of business storage we also need a copy of Kamer van Koophandel. Payment of a deposit (only applicable if you are not paying by direct debt) and the first invoice must be made prior to moving in. This should take no more than five minutes and you can start using your self storage unit.

Can you help me with my removals?
Yes. We have partnerships with trusted local removal and van hire companies and can either deal directly with them on your behalf or refer you to them to make your own arrangements. Please ask you store team for more information.

What does it cost?
The cost of a storage room depends on the size you need. We suggest you use our online size estimator to determine the room size that fits your need. Select your preferred store on the store locator to request a price quotation. Our store manager will get back to you with the storage size that fits your needs at the lowest possible cost.

Are there additional costs?
When signing the contract, you may be asked to pay a security deposit when not paying by direct debt. This deposit will of course be returned to you at the end of your lease. Please note that insurance for your stored goods is not included in the rental rate as well as administration fee and the cylinder lock with keys. Residential customers will rent free of BTW.

How does the 1€ promotion work?

What about insurance?
If you don’t have a personal insurance for the goods you are storing, Shurgard can suggest you a tailor-made customer goods insurance policy provided through our broker Marsh and the leading insurer Avero. This means that the content of your storage room is insured against present repurchasing value instead of day value. Please ask your store team for more details.

How quickly can I move in?
Please visit our online packing materials shop to order your boxes, bubble wrap, tape and other packing materials. Your order will be ready for you to collect at the store of your choice the day following your order (except on Sundays and public holidays). Payment takes place when you collect your order. Packing materials can of course also be purchased at all the Shurgard stores during our office opening hours, without reserving on line.

How can I pay?
First invoice is to be paid cash of pin in the store. After that you preferably pay by driect debt of through cash payment in the store.

When can I access my storage room?
Our customers benefit from extensive opening hours. Access is free of charge at all our stores, and all our stores provide access to your storage room from 6am until 11pm. The office at the store is open for any queries Monday to Friday from 09.30am 6.00pm and Saturday from 09.30am - 6.00pm.

Can I move to another room if I need more or less space?
You always have the option to move to a smaller of bigger storage room. Your Store Manager will assist you in making the new storage room available for you. Shurgard does this at no extra cost.

How do I cancel a lease?
We require a 15 days notice of your intention to vacate your room. On completion of your move out a refund will be processed for the initial security deposit and possibly outstanding balance for rent. Notice must be done in writing or just walk in the office of the store.
